Switzerland is only a small country, but it has the Alps, lush forest, and beautiful lakes. The design of tourist infrastructure built up since the 19th century demonstrates the high level of Swiss design, and at the same time vividly conveys Switzerland’s national characteristics. The role of design in building up tourism is a theme of particular interest to Japan as preparations begin for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics.
