KONOIKE Tomoko

Born in Akita, 1960. Graduated from Department of painting (Japanese Painting), Faculty of Fine Arts, Tokyo National University of Arts and Music. After the graduation, she was involved in the planning and the design of some goods including toys. It was quite influential in her executing art works. Since she represented the art works in 1997, she has gained the reputation, not only by each of her works, but also by the scale and the technique of installation to realise her vision. Since 2005, she has executed four massive narrative paintings of the four parts-series, which were exhibited at Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo, Mori Art Museum (Tokyo), Ohara Museum of Art (Kurashiki), etc., These exhibitions were noticed broadly as the stunning installation implying the story-telling with the concept of the time. She is actively participating in international exhibitions and programmes; “The Scarecrow” at Averoff Museum (Greece, 2006), “Rapt!” at CCP (Australia, 2006), and Guangzhou Triennale at Guangdong Museum of Art (China, 2008), etc., Furthermore, she has produced animations, picture books or illustrations for novels, but also planed exhibitions or events like “A-Lunch” and “The Forest of Six Senses.” Her works are collected by many international museums.
