Light for a specified space and set of conditions :

Numerous works and installations from the 1990s, when the concept was first developed, to the present, are shown in the way Maurer intended under the high ceilings of the spacious Gallery 2. After beginning to develop lighting with WASHI (Japanese paper) in the 80s and LED in the 90s, Maurer continued to forge into unchartered territories of lighting design, while also expanding his activities to produce lighting for specified spaces and sets of conditions. The installations which allowed Maurer to create the lighting he had envisioned are spaces imbued with new creative possibilities. In this fantastic setting, visitors can enjoy the deep colors of the WASHI lampshade series, MaMoNouchies, which Maurer created after being inspired by Japanese culture; Tableaux Chinois (Chinese Tableaux), in which shadows move with  waves on the water's surface like an ink-brush painting; a table, bench, and dresses which emit light using LED technology; and the chandelirs, Birds Birds Birds and Birdie, which use Lucellino, the light bulb with wings which has enjoyed great popularity in Japan.
