Dominique Perrault (provisional title)

French architect Dominique Perrault attracted international acclaim at the young age of 36 when he won the international competition for the design of the French National Library in the late 1980s. Perrault's work is characterised by a concern for how best to link new architecture with the cultural and geographical background of the site, incorporating it into an ongoing historical context. Perrault applies this approach to create a landscape - a place in which architecture, art, and nature become one.
This exhibition showcases projects that Perrault has undertaken to date around the world, beginning with the French National Library. In particular, it examines works in which the architect has focused on the connection between the architectural intervention and its urban or natural surroundings. The exhibition, also features the design process of works in progress. Through his projects, which include an office building in Osaka planned for completion in autumn 2010, visitors will have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with Perrault's philosophy.

SONE Yutaka: Perfect Moment (provisional title)

Los Angeles-based international artist SONE Yutaka's work has been featured in numerous exhibitions throughout the world. In recent years he has also established studios in China and Mexico. In the former, he has been creating sculptures using materials such as marble and crystal sourced from the Chinese town of Chong Wo, which has a long history of stonemasonry. In the latter, SONE has been creating sculptures in collaboration with local craftsmen in the city of Guadalajara, using materials such as timber and natural fibers. In moving to and working in new locations, SONE personally intervenes in the local society and political situation by creating works directly in the community. By actively taking on the friction and contradictions that lie between different cultures, classes, and occupations, SONE offers the concept of sculpture as one approach for achieving freedom, fitting narrowly into the gap between simple beauty and complex reality. The artist's body of work presented includes some of his most recent sculptures.

From the Collection 036: Four Seasons

Japan's seasons are characterised by distinct changes. Landscapes that undergo these colourful changes strongly affect the way we view nature and life. This exhibition, which presents the changing images of the four seasons, presents viewers with an opportunity to explore "what is Japanese," a theme that underpins the Tokyo Opera City collection.
